From National Geographic

"the Zoological Society of London has launched a program to identify and assist the most vulnerable of Earth’s one-of-a-kind creatures. Called EDGE, for Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered, the fund-raising project has put out a list of the top 100 mammals with unusual traits that are at risk of extinction. Over the next five years, EDGE hopes to initiate conservation plans for all 100, with similar programs to follow for amphibians and birds."

Unfortunately and fortunately, Our dearest and cutest Yangtze River dolphin is the No.1 inside this top 100 list (August 2007 Issue, Section Wildlife). It clearly shows its evolutionary importance and criticality in the viewpoint of scientific society. "Yangtze River Dolphin (Lipotes vexillifer), Fihing and collisions with boats on this busy river may have already wiped out the freshwater dolphin."
